Re: Bryan Singer Thread Closed [Merged]

Considering this website's long history of making George Lucas rape jokes, not to mention years of anti-Mel Gibson and Woody Allen threads, I'm upset that suddenly we care enough about Bryan Singer to be protective.

Weird.

Agreed, while i hate a lot of the frat boy stuff myself it doesn't break any forum rules and there's tons of that sort of talk through out the entire forum. Heck the Scar Jo thread in movie talk seems far worse in that regard.

Just doesn't seem like a moderator needed to intervene unless there were complaints.

Re: Bryan Singer Thread Closed [Merged]

I don't think it should have been closed at all let alone closed suddenly without a warning. Yes, it got very "frat-boy" but so do a lot of other threads that remain open. Why are Dick Wolves and George Lucas okay but Bryan Singer isn't?

At the very least, Giles should have gave a warning to keep to the topic at hand and to tone down the nonsense instead of slamming the doors when he felt uncomfortable with the discussion. It feels a bit overreaching.

Are there other subjects we should be weary of discussing to keep from upsetting the Mods?

Watch out! Giles is going to close this thread with this kind of outburst.

So as long as you deem it news and constructive, the thread will be reopened...

Makes...sense?

Re: Bryan Singer Thread Closed [Merged]

Threads get derailed almost religiously around here. I don't see why that one particularly needed to be closed, as it wasn't devolving into a flamewar, pissing contest, or the like. Rape is nowhere NEAR the darkest we've ever gotten here. Remember the neo-vag?

Re: Bryan Singer Thread Closed [Merged]

Looks like Singer is bowing out of promoting Days of Future Past because of this.

Making a case that a mod warning or mod note should have happened before a thread was closed is one thing. That seems like a reasonable expectation / precedent to me.

Making a case that it's okay to joke about rape because there have already been plenty of rape jokes is something completely different. If rape jokes at the expense of anyone but the rapist is the precedent / norm / justification to continue to let them fly, that's a pretty selfish, heartless reason.

In a forum where there is plenty of offensive comments in plenty of threads, it is strange that THIS one needed to be closed.

If we can't say "George Lucas raped my childhood" anymore, then is life worth living?

Re: Bryan Singer Thread Closed [Merged]

Meanwhile, the IMDB forums are running wild with Singer accusations - and that site's owned by Amazon.

I wonder how long before Brian does an obligatory sit-down with either Diane Sawyer or Oprah?

At this point Giles has given his reasoning as to why the original thread was closed. This thread is devolving in its own way, so I'm going to close it up.
